Install supplemental intersection shaped pavement markings

Description: At uncontrolled approaches, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation deployed a unique set of supplementary pavement markings on the major-road approaches (i.e., uncontrolled approaches) at intersections with minor-road stop control. These markings are intended to alert drivers of the presence of the intersection and of the potential for vehicles and other road users entering or exiting the roadway at that location. The treatment consists of two sets of pavement markings. In the direction of travel, the first set of markings warns drivers to slow to the speed limit of the roadway (e.g., “SLOW, XX MPH,”). The second set of markings illustrates the configuration of the upcoming intersection as either 4 legs or 3 legs with one of the following symbols: ┼, ├, or ┤. For 3-leg intersections, the symbol indicates the side of the roadway from which the minor road intersects the major road.

Prior Condition:  No supplemental intersection shaped pavement markings
