Study Title: Safety Edge Crash Modification Factors
Authors: Hallmark et al.
Publication Date:AUG, 2016
Abstract: The Safety Edge is a relatively low-cost countermeasure that can be applied in both asphalt and concrete paving operations. The Safety Edge has been promoted as a low-cost countermeasure to reduce the frequency and severity of rural roadway departure crashes. However, there is little information about the actual effectiveness of the Safety Edge in reducing the number and severity of crashes. This study evaluated the safety impact of the Safety Edge for construction projects in 2010 and 2011 in Iowa to assess the effectiveness of the treatment in reducing crashes.
